1.0 What can you expect from the program?
-----------------------------------------
With the help of the program "Note" you have the
possibility to manage short notes and ToDo-lists.E.g., you
can manage dates or if you want to, also a shopping list.
Still it isn't a total Filofix, but what you haven't got
yet, may come in future...:o) The notes will be shown in
order of their importance. The notes can also be allocated
o different categories. If you give the note a maturity
date the program will check, whenever starting the program,
if there are dates or notes which are either due or weren't
handled or were already finished. Arranging the reading
more clearly the program can show you just all notes of a
special priority or all notes that have a maturity date for
today. You must imagine an agenda-arranging.

Showover... what you can expect from this version
- notes can have a length of max. 125 characters - every
note becomes a priority
- notes can have a maturity date
- the program remebers you on notes which were dued
- notes can be marked finished and if you want you can
  delete them later
- notes can be distributed into categories (maximum)
- you can give a category a name which can have max. 15
  characters
- you can restrict the reading of notes:
  -show selected category
  -show important notes
-show notes which have a maturity date which is due today
  ...
- you can arrange max. 70 notes
- finished notes can be exported into an ADR-FILE
- you can choose notes and print them

2.0 What was the idea of this program?
--------------------------------------
I'm sorry, but I have a bad memory. So I have to write down
nearly everything. In former times lots of notes were
distributed on my table. They sticked at the monitor, were
pinned on the wall (what meant that I never found them
again)or were lost in my brief-case. The next problem was
that you could'nt say, if the note was important or not.
And what can you see from the statement :" tomorrow at 5
p.m at..."what is meant by tomorrow? Why do I never write a
date on a note? So I was asking myself why I couldn't
finish this disaster. We must remember that we are living
in the century of electronic data processing. So the idea
was born. I needed an arranging of my notes. But how? A
ToDo-list on the PC was not imaginable. I don't know
anybody who would carry a PC in his brief-case. A new
palmtop which could do that...? No, I didn't want to get
disloyal. So Portfolio was the magic word. So I was
searching for a program that adapted on my demands. To get
an idea from such a program I went into a well-known
electronic-shop to look how a professional solves this
problem. The PSION3a seems to have all that I wanted. So I
took a prospect and studied it. Yes, that was exactly what
I want. Unfortunately I couldn't find something available
between programs written for the Portfolio. So I decided to
write the program by myself. Here you can see the result. I
never thought that it would be such comfortable. Actual it
should be a small program and personally for me. But then
it became a project that should also be published.
Encouraged by the PCD, demands and ideas grew more and
more. But although I have further ideas I first want to show
this version to the publicity.

3.0 How do I use this program?
------------------------------
Starting the program you can see the main window. Now you
can call all functions by Short-Cuts (please look at the
respective list) or menues (keys F1 til F6). In this window
you can let show you a view over all notes of the actual
choice. The notes shown on the screen will be showed
sorted. Every line in the window is one note. The first
letter of the line is the priority of the note. After the
priority stands a date, if existing. And at the end you can
see the notes' text.

If the text is longer than the line, this is marked with a
special sign at the end of the text. To see the whole note
you have to go to the respective note and press return.
Then a new window appears where you can see the whole text
that can be 125 characters long. Supplementary to this you
can see date and time when writing the note or rather when
changing it last in the lower window-line. In the upper-
window you can see the priority of the note.

Now coming back to the main-window. In the note-list I can
move forwards and backwards with cursor keys. The current
note is marked by a sparkling block-cursor. If the list is
longer than six entries you will see a scrollbar at the
right side of the window. From the position of the cursor
in the scrollbar you have an approximate clue on which
position you are in the list.

In the first line of the window the current category is
shown. You can choose between six categories when assigning
a note. Five categories can named by the user. The sixth
category is not really a category. It is named "all
notes...". As you can see from the name all notes being in
the data bank are shown here. You must imagine the single
categories as single stacks of notes. For example one stack
contains all notes which are dates another one contains
notes which are hobbies and so on. It is a little help if
you want to keep a view over all this small notes. Should
there be notes which are not allocated to a special
category, you can filter them out with a special search
criterion.
This search or filtering function is another possibility
to show the notes in a clearly way. In the search menue you
can choose which notes should be seen in the main-window.
If you want to see only notes with the priority "important"
you can restrict the search to the effect that only these
notes are shown. The possibilities of searching are not
restricted to this criterion. It is also possible to search
for notes that are valid for today or all notes which were
already dued. As already mentioned I can also search for
notes that have no category. To find all notes that are
finished you have a search criterion named "finished". Then
the main-window only shows notes that fulfill this
criterion. Besides the name of the category also the
criterion you are filtering is shown. To pick up the
filtering there is a menue "Delete search criterion" and
again all notes are shown. But you must remember that the
filtering only comprises notes of the current category. So
if I want to have all notes that are valid for today I must
change into the category "all notes...". The filtering
criterion is kept even if I change into another category or
if I work with a note. If you have worked with a note and
now it doesn't fit into the scheme it disappears from the
current list. An example. I choose the category "shopping"
and let me show all notes that are unimportant. Now I
notice that the second note is already finished and so I
open the working menue and make the note finished. After
this change the note disappears from the current list. It
has still the priority "unimportant" but because it is
finished it doesn't fit into the selection. The number of
notes in the current list stands in the main-window always
in the upper right corner.

To write a new note I can choose the corresponding menue or
I can press the tabulator. At first you can see an input-line in which I can write the note. In this line you only
can see 38 characters but the text contents scrolls
automatically. As long as I don't press the ESC-key or the
RETURN-key I can change the text in any way I want to. I
can move in the text with the cursor-keys to correct parts
with BACKSPACE or DELETE. I have all possibilities for
editing I have in a normal editor. When finishing the input
another menue appears. In this menue I can decide on a
maturity date for the note. It's like making a date for a
special day. There are different ways of deciding on a
date. With the first menue I can decide on the current date
as date. With the item "Input..." the user can register a
date on his own. This happens with an input-line which is
similar to the function I have already described above. An
important difference are the facts that the length of the
text differs and that this line works with an overwrite-mode whereas the input-line works with an insert-mode.
Another hint. If you choose a date on your own the program
doesn't check if it's a correct date. So, e.g., I can
decide on the date 41.14.96 and the program won't see this
as an error. So be careful with this. The menue "6-day-choice" developed from the fact that most of the dates or
notes should be due to te next day or til max. four or five
days. To make it easier for the user this choice came up.
Choosing this menue another menue appears where you can see
the next six days. I have to choose a date with the cursor
to accept this date. If you don't want to have a date for
your note you choose the last item "no date...". When I
have finished this I must choose a priority. From another
menue I can choose the priority. Now I have a new note. To
decide on a category you needn't an input. If you are in a
category the new note will be assigned to this category.

In the menue "Working..." you can change all relevant
settings. You have also the possibility to move a note into
another category or to make it finished. If a note is
finished its' priority will be "unimportant" and if you
have set an alarm flag it will be turned off. Setting an
alarm flag means that the program will remember you on
notes that have a date which has already been. This happens
as long as I finish a note. An alarm flag is set
automatically if you decide on a maturity date.
